Method 3 technical details

1. Particle size reduction: Animal by-products must be processed to a particle size not exceeding 30 millimeters using appropriate equipment. The effectiveness of this equipment must be inspected daily and the conditions must be documented. If larger particles are found, the process must be stopped immediately and the equipment repaired before resuming.

2. Heat treatment: After particle size reduction, ABPs must be heated to specific core temperatures to ensure proper sterilization:

   • Greater than 100 °C for at least 95 minutes

   • Greater than 110 °C for at least 55 minutes

   • Greater than 120 °C for at least 13 minutes

3. Processing systems: Processing can take place in both batch and continuous systems. This allows for operational flexibility and adjustment to the needs of the production process.

4. Regulatory compliance: Compliance with these processing standards ensures that the treated ABPs are safe for subsequent use – for the production of energy, fertilizers or other technical applications.
