Method 4 (processing of ABPs)
Method 4 for the processing of animal by-products includes detailed procedures for their safe and effective handling, ensuring compliance with EU regulations.
Method 4 for the processing of animal by-products (ABPs) is crucial for the effective management of these products. It ensures their safe and efficient processing, thereby minimizing risks to public and animal health. This process complies with strict EU standards, ensures the high quality and safety of treated products and supports their wide industrial use.
Method 4 technical details
-
Particle size reduction: Animal by-products must be processed into particles no larger than 30 millimeters in size. Special machines are used for this and their effectiveness must be inspected daily. If discrepancies are found, the equipment must be repaired immediately before further use.
-
Heat treatment: After particle size reduction, the by-products must be heated in a container with added fat – to reach specific temperatures that ensure thorough sterilization:
-
Greater than 100 °C for at least 16 minutes
-
Greater than 110 °C for at least 13 minutes
-
Greater than 120 °C for at least 8 minutes
-
Greater than 130 °C for at least 3 minutes
-
-
Processing systems: Processing can be carried out in batch or continuous systems, allowing flexibility in production and adjustment to specific requirements.
-
Regulatory compliance: Compliance with these processing standards ensures that the treated ABPs are safe for subsequent use, for example for the production of energy, fertilizers or other technical applications.
