Particle Size Reduction: Animal by-products must be reduced to a particle size no greater than 30 millimetres using appropriate equipment. The effectiveness of the equipment must be checked daily, and any necessary repairs must be made if discrepancies are found.
Heat Treatment: After reduction, the animal by-products must be placed in a vessel with added fat and heated to achieve specific core temperatures:
- Greater than 100°C for at least 16 minutes
- Greater than 110°C for at least 13 minutes
- Greater than 120°C for at least 8 minutes
- Greater than 130°C for at least 3 minutes
Batch or Continuous Systems: The processing can be carried out in either batch or continuous systems, allowing flexibility in operations.
