Lard is a fat obtained from pigs commonly used in various industrial applications, such as lubricants, biofuels and more.

Lard is fat obtained from pigs and processed as a multi-purpose product used in many industrial applications. PEPITO produces Category 3 lard by rendering. We purchase a wide range of pork raw materials from our suppliers for this product line. They are Category 3 leaf lard, ruffle fat, fat derived from pork skin, backfat, and fat from other parts of the body with a higher fat content.

Types of lard

  • Leaf lard – is a specific type of pork fat that is found in the abdominal cavity near the lumbar spine of the pig, where the kidneys are. This is fatty tissue deposited on the inside of the abdominal wall of the pig.
  • Ruffle fat – sometimes referred to as intestinal fat, is a specific type of pork fat that is found in close proximity to the pig's intestines. This adipose tissue connects the intestinal loops and is obtained during the process of removing the intestines.
  • Fat derived from pork skin – also known as pork rind fat, is a specific type of pork fat obtained from skinned pork rinds.
  • Backfat – known as one of the highest-quality fat tissues obtained from pigs, is characterized by a pure white color and a solid consistency. Its location in the animal's body means that it has minimal meat content, which makes backfat highly desirable.
